163: How Motherhood Changed Me: I Share My Newest Pursuit Of Slow, Abundant Living!

I’ve been waiting for the right time to share this. I’m not going to lie– it feels pretty vulnerable for me to share. But I know that vulnerability = connection, and if I can help just ONE person feel less alone by sharing my story, it’s all worth it to me!

The truth is, until very recently, a part of me has been struggling for the past 1.5 years. 🥺

The part of me that was struggling was full of RESISTANCE. I was resistant to the fact that the success I was yearning for in my life and business was evolving. I was gripping so tightly to the version of me (and the goals) BEFORE I became a mom and I was too scared to let certain things go.

With that came a deep pain that felt like quiet white noise. It always seemed to be there, but it wasn’t intense enough for me to prioritize getting rid of it - aka healing it. It was a block that’s hard to describe in a few words, but to summarize:

In late 2022, just as I was wrapping up my most successful year yet as a business owner (goals wise of what I set out to achieve), I started feeling…too wired. I couldn’t fully enjoy my well-deserved time off postseason without feeling like I was STILL supposed to be working full time hours on both businesses...DURING MY FAMILY VACATION!

Of course I didn’t work for that entire month that we took off together as a family in Barbados, but like I mentioned before, it was this background white noise that I just couldn’t shake. It’s like I was addicted to accomplishing the NEXT goal, or outlining the NEXT project, or wanting that NEXT idea to hit me asap! The empty space to just BE left me feeling uncomfortable.

With a lot of digging and reflection, I’ve finally figured out the source of my suffering, and it’s this:

The societal programmed beliefs that..

  • “We need to work at least 40 hours a week to be successful”

  • “If we’re not working hard, we are lazy”

  • “Our worth is tied to how much we can accomplish”

Because of these beliefs (that I thought I had fully worked though LOL), I ended up…

Resisting what my soul needed in this new transition to motherhood, and that’s slow abundant living.

✨The kind of slow abundant living where I work 5 hours a day on BOTH businesses because I created an aligned plan to make it happen and still get to earn my dream income

✨The kind of slow abundant living where my “enoughness” is not tied to what I got accomplished in my businesses that day.

✨The kind of slow abundant living where if I choose to have a shorter work day and pick up Ben early from school, I don’t have my mind telling me “You’re being lazy. Why aren't you working more hours today?”

✨The kind of slow abundant living where productivity doesn’t have to be on the forefront of my mind each day and I can choose to do things just because I feel like it

Ahhhhhh…

I feel so much lighter now that I know what I need AND finally accepting it. But figuring it out was a looooong process. That’s why in this week’s podcast episode, I wanted to share the series of discoveries and questions I asked myself that led me to this epiphany. (This is also the episode where you finally get to hear me freestyle rap LOL)
